Hot tub installation, wiring Sarnia ON

Picture
So you’ve decided you want a hot tub for your home and are already searching for a hot tub installation contractor.  Hang on a sec. Make sure you’ve asked yourself some important questions before proceeding. Do you want an indoor hot tub (sometimes referred to by the name jacuzzi), or an outdoor one?  If outdoors, do you want it to be the centerpiece of your backyard or in a discrete location? Do you want an in ground or above ground tub?

If you’re looking into an outdoor jacuzzi hot tub electrical installation, one thing you don’t have to worry about is plumbing.  You can simply use a garden hose to fill the tub, so it would be convenient to have the tub near the home for easy accessibility.  How close can a hot tub be to a house though? We say the closer the better, but not in direct contact with the exterior of the house.  You won’t want windows to steam up and you’ll want to make sure there’s enough space around the tub to maneuver around, to open doors (the home and the hot tub’s), and to access the tub’s control panel.

Make sure to ask your hot tub installer what foundation is suitable for the jacuzzi installation.  Whether indoors or outdoors, you’ll need a stable base, usually a concrete pad to support the potentially thousands of pounds of the tub + bathers + water.  An existing deck may sometimes be used, but it needs to be assessed to see if it can bear the weight.

What is the hot tub electrical installation cost?

This question is misleading because it seems to address only the electrical component of the installation.  It’s a difficult one to answer without knowing the exact situation, such as:

  • Is the current electrical panel able to support the power demands of the hot tub?  If not, the service panel may need an upgrade or replacement.
  • How far do you want the outdoor hot tub to be from the house?  Further away from the house requires longer cables and a more complex wiring situation, which adds to the cost.
  • Do you need to install a concrete base or use an existing deck?
  • If installed indoors, is there an existing ventilation system to remove the steam and moisture?  If not, this needs to be installed, or consider installing a dedicated room for the jacuzzi.
  • If installed outdoors, will you need to add a privacy fence or screen?

Other things you may or may not have considered:  since you’re dealing with a high moisture appliance, you’ll want to have a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) installed by a licensed electrician.  And depending on the scenario, you may need an electrical inspection and have a permit pulled before proceeding with the hot tub installation.

If your head is swimming with all these factors to consider, don’t fret.  Just give our Sarnia electricians a call and we’ll guide you through from beginning to end.  You’ll be relaxing in your large bliss pod in no time - alone or with family and friends, whatever your preference.
